SURF LANGENFELD

Surfing in the middle of a lake? Is possible… in Langenfeld in German North Rhine-Westphalia. The wave in the most populated German federal state belongs to a water ski park and offers as the first standing wave on a lake in addition to good surf yet a unique nature experience.

Surf Langenfeld belongs to the waterski lift Langenfeld and is therefore part of a wakeboard and waterski centre. Thus, the wave belongs to a huge facility with many facets and attractions. With the help of the Unit Surf Pool technology, a wave with an atmosphere that is unique in river surfing is created in a separated area in the middle of the lake.

Here you can find everything you need to know about the wave:

WIDTH

8 METERS

The wave is about as wide as most completely artificial waves. With 8 meters there is enough space for tricks and long drawn turns.

HEIGTH

UP TO 1.6 METERS

Like many artificial waves, the wave is adjustable, allowing with sessions for any skill level.

STRENGTH

STRONG

The amount of water and therefore the strength can be adjusted by the Unit Surf Pool technology. This makes the wave suitable for all skill levels. In addition, it has relatively much pressure for an adjustable wave due to the ramp.

TYPE

ARTIFICIAL WAVE

The wave is created by a pump system that feeds water from the lake into a channel. When this flows over the wave ramp, a standing wave is created.

SURFING IN THE MIDDLE OF A LAKE

As with many completely artificial waves, there is a lot going on at Surf Langenfeld’s location. The lake alone, with its water ski facility and standing wave, invites you to spend more time there than just a surf session, because the facility consists of several lakes and a campsite.

The wave itself is located in a separated area of the lake. Those who are washed out of the wave simply paddle back next to the wave area. So a little paddle training can also be part of surfing Langenfeld.

In addition, there is the directly connected restaurant and beach bar just next to the wave. So Langenfeld has more than just good surf.

Surf Langenfeld is located directly next to the highway between Cologne and Düsseldorf and is therefore easy to reach. It is also no problem to take the S-Bahn to surf. The nearest S-Bahn stop is only a 10-minute walk away. From there the S6 goes to Düsseldorf, Essen or Cologne.

THE WAVE

The wave in Langenfeld works on the basis of the Unit Surf Pool technology, which makes it possible to create a standing wave in the middle of a lake. The system is completely variable and allows a variety of settings for beginner sessions up to super steep contest waves. In Langenfeld, every skill level gets its rides.

With a width of 8 meters and an adjustable height of up to 1.6 meters, the wave also offers enough space for all kinds of maneuvers and also the first riversurfing attempts. In addition, the wave is considered relatively powerful, which makes it easier to stay in the wave after tricks and also smaller boards can be surfed. The water under the wave is deeper than in other standing waves. This means there is no danger of hitting the fin or board on the wave ramp. Good for your board and your fin boxes.

For a session at Surf Langenfeld you don’t necessarily need your own surfboard. If you only have a board for ocean surfing, you can easily rent the right KANOA Surfboard for the current session from the Surf Langenfeld team or get one in the local shop.

A session in Langenfeld lasts a whole 60 minutes, which is enough time to become friends with the wave. Sessions can be easily booked online.

“Langenfeld is a fast, steep river wave that is still forgiving enough to make mistakes. The faster pace and more power means you can hang deep into every turn. Both ocean surfers or rapid surfers…. Everyone gets their rides completely.”
